Miami Vice ~ Fan Review
MIAMI VICE IS BACK!
First things first, put away the pastel colored glasses that you watched the T.V. show with. Michael Mann gives us a darker, sexier version this time, so don’t expect the same old Crockett & Tubbs. To make the T.V. show into a present day movie the things that fit in with the Miami Vice of the 80's don’t work in 2006.
You can try to sit back, relax and watch the movie but it keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. A drug deal gone bad for the F.B.I. loses Crockett and Tubbs a key informant, which pulls them into going deep undercover. As they get pulled in it, in turn, pulls the audience in. Full of action this movie doesn’t slow down much the entire time. No matter what your looking for in a movie you can find it here. Action, love, sex, emotion, and some incredible dancing by Li (Isabella) and Farrell (Crockett). You’ve also got some great gun battles and one explosion out of several that made all the seats in the theater vibrate.
Colin Farrell as Crockett and Jamie Foxx as Tubbs both give amazing performances not just with their lines but with their expressions. Both have several scenes where just looking into their eyes convey the emotion of the story. Gong Li’s Isabella grabs you and makes you want to pull for a happy ending for her. When you consider she is involved with Montoya, the arms and drug trafficker that Crockett and Tubbs are trying to bring down this is an amazing acting job on her part and brilliant writing.
I would have loved to have seen the opening daytime boat race that is shown on some of the commercials out for the movie. Although with most of the movie being shot at nighttime I think it would’ve been poorly placed being one of only a few daytime scenes. I’ll look for it on the DVD’s cut scenes when it is released. This is a movie that will age well and unlike the T.V. series will remain timeless.
